I read this verse the other day and I was stuck. I couldn’t go on until I soaked in every bit of it’s life giving truth.
“The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to lead them on their way during the day
and in a pillar of fire to give them light at night,
so that they could travel day or night.
The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night
never left its place in front of the people”.
I had already read earlier that morning that certain things happened to His people in the wilderness to serve as examples for us. So, my ears were tuned to hear what he wanted us to learn.
1. He led them during the day when they could see ahead and he led them at night when they could see nothing. His presence lit up the darkness.
2.He led them continually, not once did he leave them or not go before them.
This may be the single most comforting truth that I have meditated on these past few years.
While my husband battled for his life for 14 months, I remembered that the Lord had gone before us. He was not taken by surprise at the battle we were in and whether we could see or not He was going before us and still had good plans for us!
When my beloved went to Heaven and we felt the ground shaking beneath our feet that all was not as we had planned, prayed for and desired. I consoled my heart with this truth.
The Lord was still going before us. He had not left our midst.
He had given Alan the single best gift he could have, his reward early.
And while our feet felt shaken they were not unstable.
He bid us to cast our burdens on the Lord. He promised to sustain us, for He never lets the righteous fall. ( Ps. 55:2)
The Lord lifted us up and put our feet on a new path.
I remembered thinking at the time that I never wanted to let my earthly roots grow so deep that I am not willing to pick up and go.
I found that,
Home is not a place, its a presence.
It’s the presence of our Savior, and He goes with us. He goes before us.
Maybe that’s not enough. Maybe you need something more, than to know He goes before you in your life.
Then let this be your bonus truth. Wave it like a banner over your heart and be encouraged by it.
“The Lord favors those who fear Him. Those who wait for His lovingkindness.”
Are you waiting beloved?
He sees you. I guarantee He sees you.
How could He not?
He goes before us, and He isn’t way out in front of us so far away that He is not aware of the minute by minute struggles we find ourselves in.
Ps. 33:18 echoes that same truth with even more clarity.
“Behold the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him. On those who hope for His lovingkindness.”
Savor that truth dear one. His eyes are on you when you fear Him and HOPE!
Are you waiting on the Lord? Are you wondering what the next step is?
The next step is to “Lift Up Your Eyes”, fix your gaze right back at Him and wait in hope for his lovingkindness.
It surely will appear.
* Reading from Exodus 13:21.
Such powerful words you have lived out before us, helping us all to realize we’re not alone. Love you! Ann
You always turn my heart towards Jesus Ann. Thank you!
This thought has come to me recently too. We know not what is coming, but He DOES. This brings such comfort and erases anxiety when I remember this. Thanks for sharing.
Amen. His truths are the best comfort Sara. Thank you for taking the time to read.
