Opening Your Home, Starts With Your Heart.

Posted on July 25, 2018by tara.dickson

As part of my July Blog Swap, today I am welcoming my sweet friend Natalie to the blog. She is sharing some beautiful and practical advice on hospitality. I love that when we “lift up our eyes,” He allows us to see others. Then we can invite them in, to our hearts and our homes […]

Sometimes beloved this old world can feel like a s Sometimes beloved this old world can feel like a scary place to live. Life is more unpredictable than it ever was. We don’t know what the future holds. But did we ever?

Psalm 45:1-2 reminds us that we serve a very present God. He is in our midst.

“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea.”

This is why beloved, we must “lift up our eyes.” What we fix our gaze on changes everything.
It changes overwhelmed to over-comers.
It changes hopeless to hopeful.
It changes weak to strong.
Because the one who lives in us is greater than the one who lives in the world.
Eyes on Jesus.
Now let’s go build the kingdom.
Save this to remind your heart later. #liftupyoureyes #seekandyoushallfind #incourage #speakthetruth #heisable #verypresenthelp #donotbeafraid #onethousandgifts #dailydevotions #hopewriterlife #renewyourmind
I’ve been thinking a lot about how God shepherds I’ve been thinking a lot about how God shepherds our hearts. And while this verse in particular references David, how much more does our Lord shepherd our hearts with Integrity? His integrity.
Because we are human I think we often attribute our humans failings to Him.

Surely he’s weary of how much I need Him. Surely He is frustrated over my failings. Maybe that’s why I can’t hear Him... maybe He’s left me.
But it’s actually David that shows us what to do when our feelings speak so loudly to are hearts that we begin to believe things about our God that aren’t true.
He speaks to his own heart and re-members it with the truth of God’s word. (Ps77)
So today, I am asking you... what truth do you need to bind up your wounded heart with beloved?
For me, it’s this -God shepherds us with His integrity. The never will I leave you, never will I forsake you kind of integrity.
*This is a great practice to make part of your time with Jesus, beloved.
1. Ask the Spirit what lie you are believing.
2. Find the truth in God’s word that tears down that lie.
3. Commit to memory or mediate on that truth.
Save this post to remember or tag a friend this might bless.

Will it look like winter today or spring? It’s Will it look like winter today or spring?

It’s always around this time of year I find myself yearning for spring, but winter doesn’t always like to go quietly.
It’s a bit like when we find ourselves in a hard place in life.
Going back to places of comfort looks tempting. Skipping over the hard middle of our story to the delightful end sounds heavenly.
Maybe, you’re waiting on that open door, that answered prayer, that resolve to a conflict.

If we aren’t careful we start to listen to what the world tells us in those in-between places.
“If it’s meant to be it will come with ease,” or, “if you want something to happen you have to make it happen.”
While there may be elements of truth in these clichés we often hear, they aren’t always true.
Sometimes the best gifts in our lives come through great adversity.
While other times, if you want something to happen you work hard, pray and wait on the Lord.
Life is too complex to be boiled down to a nice saying.
So, while we wait for God to make all things new, to make the crooked way straight or to shine His light on the next right thing, why not wait in His presence, giving thanks for what He’s done in the past, for the gift of today and for the good He has planned for us tomorrow.

“For you have been my help, and in the shadow of “For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.”
Psalm 63:7
No matter how long the shadows grow beloved, not only can we rest while we are in them, we can actually sing with great joy.
Because darkness isn’t a sign that Christ has left you. It may be that He is very near and you are hidden in the shadows of His love.
I love this quote by C.S. Lewis,
“ God’s presence is not the same as the feeling of God’s presence and He may be doing most for us when we think He is doing the least.”
May you be reminded today, of how very near your Great God is.

Save to remember this or tag a friend who needs a fresh reminder of His presence. Love you all!

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly t Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think....
We serve a God of FAR MORE beloved. Somewhere along the way, whether by fiery arrows of doubt and fear from the enemy or by our own insecurities; this truth becomes threatened.
We begin to think small. We begin to ask for little. We begin to tell ourselves to settle for less. We may even begin to think that we are hoping for too much.
Ah, what welcome relief to know that we serve who is able to do far more, Abundantly that all we ask or think.
And the cherry on the top is the next verse: According to the power that works within us!
When you follow Jesus and His Spirit comes to live inside you, you have this same power. The one that raised Jesus from the dead. That’s no small thing friend.
So let’s dream with God. Let’s set our minds on things above rather than the earth. Let’s ask and seek and knock and do it all for His Glory.

What are you rehearsing in your mind today? What t What are you rehearsing in your mind today? What thoughts and yes maybe feelings are on repeat that are not from our God?

Oh Lord, may we never forget your benefits. In the night hour, when we stand and wait to hear from you, when our hearts groan within us...
Let us remember all that you have done on our behalf. Let us rehearse your faithfulness until it becomes a song we never stop singing.
