The Power of Resting in Our Weaknesses

Posted on March 25, 2018by tara.dickson

I don’t know about you but feeling weak is something I am not fond of. When I’m feeling weak it’s usually followed up quickly by the lies of the enemy. Run away. Life is too much for you. No one needs you. You only add to the burden they are bearing. Work as hard as […]

Only in Dying Can We Live.

Posted on March 18, 2018by tara.dickson

Remember the parable of the sower? I remember hearing it for years and thinking, “ Well, I am a believer so I must have good soil in my heart.” That immediately ended anything good I could glean from hearing the Word and applying it to my heart. Beloved, as long as we are living it’s […]

He Still Moves Stones

Posted on March 5, 2018March 6, 2018by tara.dickson

After a month or more of too many feelings and not enough words, I felt the Spirit’s excavating presence. We survived. We made it through the month of Alan’s birthday and home going. It was 2 years ago that we walked away from the cemetery and retreated to the beach, to walk the shores and […]

I am chief among comfort seekers. I love nothing b I am chief among comfort seekers. I love nothing better than a warm fire, cozy blanket and hot drink while being surrounded by my favorite people.

While that isn't wrong, and I believe the Lord even delights in blessing us with those moments. I also believe He has called us to be people that do hard and holy things.
Sometimes I reflect about how easy it was to be a believer who didn’t press in.
It was more like a club I belonged to.
I used to coast along on my good intentions and efforts to be a good person and fell asleep at night with no care about tomorrow and no longing in my heart to see a dark world reconciled to their God.

But,what is that but a religion that I have made all about me? Salvation for me, peace of mind for me, prayers for me.
Beloved, if we are to be the light bearers that God call us to be, we must step out.

We must leave our comfort zones.
I pray for him to break our hearts wide open with love for the ones he will leave the 99 to go after.
This is the truth beloved.
We were made to do hard and holy things.

* P.S. sometimes the Lord uses words I wrote a long time ago to speak truth to me again, in a timely moment.
I’m learning with you friends, layer upon layer. Grace upon grace.

Have you ever stood outside on a dark night with o Have you ever stood outside on a dark night with only the light of the moon to illuminate the world around you?
The darkness enveloping you is an inky black,
and the more you stare into it the more disoriented you become.

But, glance at the moon, the only source of light, and objects take on their perspective.
Shadows recede, and tree branches begin to look like beautiful fingers stretched across the night sky.

Beloved, the only way to keep our perspective in times that are dark is to keep our eyes on the light rather than the darkness surrounding us.
Fear is a liar.
Darkness distorts our vision,
and our feelings that carry such weight with us,
don’t always speak truth.

Truth is, “The Lord is my light, and my salvation whom shall I fear?”
Ps. 27:1 (KJV)
His actual word is a lamp unto our feet and a light for our path.
So, fix your gaze on the light of the world.
Use His words to guide your walk and rest in His promises trusting that He will lead you in the way you should go.

This verse. The verse that comforts me, remakes m This verse.

The verse that comforts me,
remakes me
and points me to the one truth that keeps me going day by day.
It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.
Therefore life cannot overwhelm and overcome me.
It may feel like it at times but His truth says differently.
I no longer live with my doubts my fears and my selfish desires.
I am remade.
I am undone.
His Holy Spirit rewires me because He resides within me.
Father give us the grace to submit ourselves to your renewing power to remake us.
Help us choose daily to die to ourselves so that you might live more fully in us.
May we love more fully, serve more faithfully and trust completely because your power is at work in us.
Not by power or by might but by your Spirit!

May we be like children. Yesterday in third grade May we be like children.

Yesterday in third grade we discussed what it looks like to clothe ourselves in kindness, humility, and tender hearts.
I asked the children what happens when we put on our clothes and walk out the door.
They all understood that our clothes go with us.
We talked about the power of words and how they can remind of us of the things we know to be true.
You should have heard them share where they would write “kindness.”

On my shirt, on my sleeves, on my head!!
Last night I was struck by the power God’s word has to change us.
It can literally be the reset button our hearts need.
Beloved, if a little child can understand the importance of clothing themselves in kindness, patience, and forgiveness,
so when they step out to greet the day, it goes with them,
how much more should we?
Stop.
Ask the Lord what He wants you to clothe yourself in today.

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Col. 3:12-14

I was talking to my youngest one day about the len I was talking to my youngest one day about the lengths God will go to change the direction of our steps.

If I look back at the hard season our family has walked through I can literally see in each of us a dramatic turn.

It was a veer in our path.

We left homes, schools, friends, habits, the comfortable and familiar for the unknown and the scary.

Only God could take something hard and use it to direct our steps.

The abundance he has brought from taking those first dark and scary steps has been incredible.

His faithful hand is still uncovering the treasures He was leading us too. 😭❤️

I’m sharing this to encourage you beloved that He wants to guide your steps as well.

My prayer has been this,
“You are the one that establishes our steps Lord. Shine your light on the very next steps you want each of us to take.”

*Here is my challenge dear friends.

Lift up your eyes and look back to see where you’ve come from and how far He has brought you today.

Then ask him what’s next. Not in a 10 year plan kind of way. But just a “today” kind of way.

And maybe it starts with “Thank you!”

Thank you that you have brought me this far.

I would love to pray for your next steps.
Drop a comment if you want that.

I somehow don’t think Alan is surprised that I’m on this writing journey.

In fact I know as a part of that great cloud of witnesses he is probably cheering me on to keep saying yes to that next right thing, that takes me out of my comfort zone but deeper into God’s will.

For those of you have felt the nudge to write but want to be equipped and accompanied by other writers, editors and agents, my beloved Hope*Writers is doing a webinar on how to write a book. I would love for you to join me on this journey.
The link is in my bio. ❤️
