How To Find Joy The Day After.

Posted on November 25, 2016November 23, 2017by tara.dickson

It kind of hit me out of nowhere, this empty feeling. Like all of the joy and excitement had drained away like a tub of water. I expect it the day after Christmas. When December 26 rolls around, there has been such a building up of weeks of anticipation. The world looks different everywhere your […]

Cultivating A Heart of Thanksgiving.

Posted on November 22, 2016November 23, 2017by tara.dickson

Every November the landscape changes just a bit. I’m not talking about how the trees start to shed their glorious leaves but rather the fabric of our thoughts and conversations start to alter. We begin to share the things we are thankful for on social media. We talk about abundance of food, family and good […]

What Does Courage Look Like?

Posted on November 20, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

The trees on my morning walk are changing. The last of the bright red leaves are bravely clinging to their branches, while the ground is covered in every autumn hue. With each gust of wind they rain down, a fresh blanket for my feet to crush in the passing.      As the […]

How To Find Peace During the Holidays, Or Any Day.

Posted on November 17, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

Sitting on a chaise lounge wrapped in the fluffiest robe you can imagine, sipping on hot tea and gazing out the window at beautiful evergreen trees. Their spiny tips crammed full of clusters of pine cones. I drag in a deep shaky breath and let out a huge sigh.      Immediately my thoughts start […]

Come Away With Me On A Walk To Remember

Posted on November 11, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

As Anne of Green Gables would say, “I’ve come to invite you on one of our old time rambles.” I wanted to invite you, dear readers, into the walk I took in the mountains today. How appropriate that the Lord would take me away to the mountains to be with him. Alan’s place.   I […]

What Is Your Why?

Posted on November 10, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

Have you ever asked yourself why you are doing what you’re doing? Is it your passion? Is it something you fell into and chose by default? Did someone choose it for you?      I’m just starting to let myself dream. I feel a bit guilty even typing that word, “Dream”. It feels […]

He Restores My Soul.

Posted on November 1, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. There  is no good thing that I lack. His provision is enough in life, in my circumstances, in my heart, and no matter how weary my soul may feel. He is more than enough! I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green […]

Why It’s Okay to Feel Sadness In the Midst of Hope.

Posted on October 30, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

I have been feeling something coming on. You know that feeling you have when you feel like your about to get a cold. Well, I had that this week but it wasn’t physical. I felt it deep in my spirit, in my heart. (This isn’t fun beloved. However I told you that I […]

The Work of Our Hands.

Posted on October 29, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

I passed by a little print in my bathroom this morning that I had propped up on a “vintage shelf” I got recently.  As I read the words once again I marveled at how dear they were to me.  When life has been chaotic, and if feels like not only has your apple […]

"Father God, please use the dead things to nourish "Father God, please use the dead things to nourish the soil of my heart," I cried!

I didn't even know where that came from.

But it was the cry that surfaced when he began tilling my heart.

As we have traveled this "grieving with hope" journey, I have realIzed a few things.

One, our hope is not in our circumstances but rather in our God...The God who brings life from death.
Also, this journey is not an either/or thing.

You don't grieve or rejoice.

You do both and you do them in motion.

What I mean by that is, the very act of "lifting up our eyes" in hope is, us taking a step of faith into the lives that God still has for us!
It's trusting that though we may have lost a job, a relationship, a title or a loved one, God is already in the act of bringing life from that.
Praise His name forever! ❤️

Have you ever wondered what it means to LIVE by th Have you ever wondered what it means to LIVE by the words that come from God’s mouth?
Matthew 4:4 tells us that
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Just like our bodies need bread to continue living, our spirits need the word’s breathed by God to sustain our souls.
Breathed by God beloved.
Of course it would be these words alone that have the power to actually Revive us.

Revive us according to your word God.

This is how His yoke becomes easy and His burdens become light.

It happens when we fill our hearts with so much of Him, He spills out in the pressing.
I want to drip Jesus.
Don’t you?

One day , I ran across this quote I’d saved from One day , I ran across this quote I’d saved from T. Davis Bunn-
“The whole world's out there screaming for our attention and only one little voice in our heart is whispering ;The answers not out there. It's in here.”
Oh how I want to listen to that still small voice beloved!

There have been times in my life I desperately wanted to hear from God. You have too.
Isaiah 30:21 says,
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it.”
Now more than ever it’s imperative that the sheep know the Good Shepherds voice.
We could just make up our own path but why would we do that when He can see down the road?
He can direct our steps and lead us in triumphant procession.

I laced up my shoes and headed out the door determ I laced up my shoes and headed out the door determined to get my walk in before the sun set, much sooner than I’d like.
It was unseasonably warm and I only needed a light jacket.
As I exhaled the stress of the day and inhaled His presence, I began to lay my requests before Him.
Ten minutes later I found myself switching over from prayer to worry and strategizing how I could help the Lord in the things I’d asked him to do.
I pulled myself up short and pictured myself literally handing it all over to Jesus, again. I’m sorry, Lord. I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding.
I need you.

There is comfort in abandonment friends.

When we cling so tightly to our plans and our will, we start to fear they will be taken from us.

They become something we must protect.

When we abandon ourselves, all that we are and all that is ours to God, there is freedom in the releasing.
It’s a laying down of our will so that we can pick up His.
Though the plans we lay for ourselves may or may not come to pass, it doesn’t mean God’s plans for us are over or that He isn’t good.

I breathe out my agenda and inhale His.

There must be an emptying and filling for our hearts to grow.
It’s a bit like breathing.”

“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah. 29:1 (NIV)

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantl “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.”
Eph.3:20

We serve a God of FAR MORE beloved.

Somewhere along the way, whether by fiery arrows of doubt and fear from the enemy or by our own insecurities; this truth becomes threatened.

We begin to think small.

We begin to ask for little.

We begin to tell ourselves to settle for less. We may even begin to think that we are hoping for too much.

Ah, what welcome relief to know that we serve a God who is able to do far more, ABUNDANTLY than all we ask or think.

And the cherry on the top is the next verse: According to the power that works within us!
When you follow Jesus and His Spirit comes to live inside you, you have this same power. The one that raised Jesus from the dead. That’s no small thing friend.
So let’s dream with God.
Let’s set our minds on things above rather than the earth.
Let’s ask and seek and knock and do it all for His Glory. ❤️

One stormy day, I was praying for friends walking One stormy day, I was praying for friends walking through the same storm we walked through with Alan.

I was wondering about all the longings God had placed within my heart to breathe His words of life.

I was considering the hearts of women who had shared their own deep griefs with me and aching to see them walk in Hope!

My heart felt like the branches on the trees outside, bent by the power of the storm surrounding them, yet held fast because of the tree they are a part of .

I remembered that I am no longer like the limbs that are dry and brittle that once blown on, crash to the earth.

I began to look at the rivers of rain streaming down from the sky and across our grass and I could picture in my minds eye the lovely creek I like to walk by and how full it must be from the downpour.

This image was so vivid!
But, the words the Spirit deposited in my heart were more so.

“With Jesus only, is it possible to go from an empty, dry place to one that is no longer empty and dry but FULL to the brim.
It’s banks exploding with all the goodness the Lord fills us with.

I began to examine my heart before I had focused my gaze on him this morning and I realized this…
Left to ourselves we may be depressed,scared, alone and downtrodden but;
Filled with Him we become streams of Living Water, overflowing the banks of our own lives , and reaching out to water the dry places around us.
