How to Change Your Default from Stress to Joy!

Posted on September 20, 2018by tara.dickson

I was standing in the park the other day, in California, watching my granddaughter play with another child in a giant sandbox. All of a sudden they decided a “snail hunt” was the next thing to do. They wandered in and out among some small trees and bushes and I moved to be able to […]

“When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. “ Ps. 94:19 How to empty your heart of anxiety. I know that sounds too good to be true! Am I an expert on this? That depends on how you look at it. I have had more than my fair share of things […]

Posted on October 22, 2017October 22, 2017by tara.dickson

Have you ever imagined what you would do in a difficult situation? Or have you made up scenarios of what you would say? You know, kind of like a test run? I don’t know about you but I like to be prepared! I was never a fan of pop quizzes! Tell me in plenty of time […]

The Treasures Around Us.

Posted on September 24, 2017September 25, 2017by tara.dickson

It’s paradise, they say, or at least as close as you can get to it! Looking around it would seem so! The vegetation is so lush all around you, every shade of green broken up my bright pinks, creamy whites and bold reds. Sitting on this balcony gazing out at the blue waves that stretch […]

How To Say, “It is well with my soul,” When Sorrows, Like Sea Billows, Roll.

Posted on April 21, 2017April 21, 2017by tara.dickson

We went to the beach this past week. It was all the things! It was beautiful. It was fun! It brought back memories of walking with Alan, of watching him throw the frisbee with our children and swim out to the reef for shells. I can still see the top of his head bobbing out […]

When You Need A Word for the New Year.

Posted on December 31, 2016by tara.dickson

As I have been trying to prepare my heart for the New Year or at least New Year’s Eve. My mind is a jumbled mess. My memories are filled with experiences. Thoughts of years past when we played board games, drank eggnog and tried to stay awake for the ball to drop, swirl through my […]

What Does Courage Look Like?

Posted on November 20, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

The trees on my morning walk are changing. The last of the bright red leaves are bravely clinging to their branches, while the ground is covered in every autumn hue. With each gust of wind they rain down, a fresh blanket for my feet to crush in the passing.      As the […]

How To Find Peace During the Holidays, Or Any Day.

Posted on November 17, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

Sitting on a chaise lounge wrapped in the fluffiest robe you can imagine, sipping on hot tea and gazing out the window at beautiful evergreen trees. Their spiny tips crammed full of clusters of pine cones. I drag in a deep shaky breath and let out a huge sigh.      Immediately my thoughts start […]

Drink From the Well

Posted on October 19, 2016December 21, 2016by tara.dickson

Now the day is over.  Night is drawing nigh.  Shadows of the evening, steal across the sky. These are the words that came to my mind as I saw the night sky above me on a walk last night. It produced such a longing in my heart for that calm sweet feeling that comes when […]

Day Two: Our God is a God of Hope!       What are two things that people in general are looking for? I think you could stop anyone on the street and they would tell you they want happiness. Or at least they would list something they think would make them happy. Another thing they […]

The Word of God is living! Yesterday I received The Word of God is living!

Yesterday I received the sweetest gift, artwork from one of my student’s mama and a beautiful note from that student.

But the cherry on top was the scripture chosen and written into the card.
Only God knew it was the verse He had spoken to me many years ago when I was in the trenches of motherhood.
At the time it was something He told me to “remember” and speak over Alan. So I had a piece of art made with it.
So much has happened since then! Years have gone by.
There has been sickness, death, joyful, weddings and babies born.
And through it all I’ve seen the hand of God.
I think He knew I needed a personal reminder that He is still working out that particular verse for our family.
Everything changes!
People grow up and move. People are added to our lives and some removed.
But God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth remains the same!
His Word is the very lamp for our feet.

“And though the grass withers and the flowers fall, the Word of our God endures forever. “
(Isaiah 40:8)

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righte “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and ALL these things shall be added unto you.” Matt.6:33

I’m holding these words close because planning and dreaming and doing is hard.

Decisions are hard.

Even if we feel like we know what God is requiring of us, the follow through can be tough.

We ask, we seek and we knock and then with a breath of courage from Heaven we step out.

Exhale beloved. He is the one that determines our steps.

When we are trying hard to lean in and listen and step out brave we can begin to carry the burden of it all.

Am I getting it right Lord? Should I have made a right turn or left? Should I has said yes or no?

Where is that writing on the wall I asked for?

He sees you beloved. He’s got you.

So lean in. Listen. Step out brave, and trust Him to show you the way as you seek first His kingdom. ❤️

The world is so loud right now and I find myself p The world is so loud right now and I find myself pressing into Jesus more and more.
I want everything he has for me. Don’t you friend?
I’m often reminded that life is short and I don’t want any of the breaths he gives me to be wasted. It feels like a weighty thing we’ve been entrusted with… this life we’ve been given.
This doesn’t mean I can’t rest.
In fact I think resting in Jesus is a valuable thing. It produces good things.
It DOES mean I want Him to search my heart.
I want him to sweep away all the things that might be keeping me from doing the very things he has created me for.
Have you asked him that lately?
Father, search me.
What needs to go?
What needs to GROW?

What if we started with this beloved…
Search me oh God, tell me if there be anything in me that is not of you.

Life can press us dear ones and do it’s own kind of revealing.
Perhaps you’ve had times when life has pressed you and you have allowed it to press you into Jesus.

Or maybe you are remembering times when hard things have caught you unaware and the small places of bitterness or unbelief that you have held onto have risen up.

Let today be a day of fresh beginnings.

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
Psalm 139:

Sometimes the Truth is clear and simple! As this Sometimes the Truth is clear and simple!
As this school year draws to a close and I consider the brevity of time with my third graders I remember the best gift I can leave with them is the one I want to leave with my own children and grandchildren.
It’s the reminder that everything they need is found in Jesus and His word.
It’s simple.❤️
They’re everywhere, now that I can see. I used They’re everywhere, now that I can see.
I used to look for them, straining my eyes to see the good things when life felt especially hard.
I counted them one by one until my eyes were lifted back up to the Father and away from my chaos.
At times life spins us out of control and we get dizzy and forget again.
Life’s not really, too busy.
When the world stops, the blur of moments, people, and days passing stills.
In the quiet my eyes can see in detail the lavish lengths our God has gone to show us He is here.
He is with us and He loves us with an everlasting love.

I’ve been asking for a long time now that God would help me see him as clearly in the light as I do in the dark.
That He would help my hunger for Him not to wax and wane but stay steady and remain.
He is doing it. In His kindness, He is drawing me in.

Somehow in the unknown. I am being known by Him and being known reminds me I am loved.

How have you seen the kindness of God? Let it draw you to His side. Let it deepen your love for Him and hold onto that when life feels hard.

Jeremiah 31:3 I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
